What is a “professional organizer”?

A professional organizer works with clients providing expert organizational help in a non-judgemental, confidential and ethical manner, which allows you to get yourself organized in a way that is more maintainable in the long-term. Anyone can offer organizing services, but it is worth checking out their credentials, professional memberships, client testimonials and previous experience before you hire them; as the cheapest organizing service is not always the best value for money.


Do professional organizers take any training?

Yes they do. I am a Chronic Disorganization Specialist and the training I have taken with the ICD and POC allows me to better serve my clients with greater knowledge and experience of different client situations, strategies and solutions. Trained professional organizers will be happy to explain what professional development they have completed and how it will make a positive difference to your experience as a client. Why are your organizing sessions recommended to be only 3 – 5 hours long?

Organizing effectively can be surprisingly tiring! Most people have the energy for approx. 3-5 hours in one day.


How do I pay for organizing services?

Payment for organizing services is due at the end of each session by cash or cheque, unless your business requires invoicing. Receipts provided on request.


Do you charge for travel time?

There is no travel charge for travel to and from free assessments. Travel time is charged for journeys to and from organizing sessions at a rate of $40 per hour.


What if I need to cancel a session?

Of course I understand that life gets busy and plans change. Please just call with as much notice as you can so that we can reschedule. Repeated cancellations at short notice may result in a charge (full details in client agreement).


Do I need to buy any storage products in advance?

I would recommend waiting, as most people have more storage containers than they realise and it is better to invest in storage solutions after you have de-cluttered and re-organized. It is a good idea to have some garbage bags and/or cardboard boxes handy to hold unwanted items.


Do you provide cleaning services?

I do light cleaning (such as wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, sweeping) when appropriate during the organizing process, but if you require more thorough cleaning services I would suggest hiring a cleaner after getting decluttered and reorganized. I have trustworthy and reliable cleaners I can recommend if you also need help in this department.


Do you take away items I no longer want?

For liability reasons this is not a service I provide, but depending on your needs I can provide you with further information on the best way to recycle or dispose of your unwanted items.
